South Carolina Shooting: Police Arrest Suspect After 14 Injured In Mall Attack
Police in South Carolina arrested a suspect in the Columbiana Centre mall shooting that left 14 people injured on Saturday afternoon.
Jewayne M. Price, 22, was detained by the Columbia Police Department as a person of interest in connection with the shooting.
Police initially detained two other men but let them go after determining they were not involved in the incident. Investigators are still working to locate at least two additional suspects “who were observed with firearms” at the mall.
Columbia Police Department Chief W.H. "Skip" Holbrook revealed the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident that “likely stemmed from an ongoing conflict” between the suspects.
Price is expected to be charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol. Holbrook revealed that Price may face additional charges as the investigation progresses.
According to tweets from the Columbia Police Department, Price had a bond hearing on Sunday at 2 p.m. local time.
“In a court hearing a short time ago, a judge set a $25,000 surety bond for shooting suspect Jewayne Price. He is also on house arrest & ordered to wear an ankle monitor. The judge will allow Price to travel from home to work certain times of the day,” the tweet read.
In a following up tweet, the departed shared the restrictions of Price’s bond release. “A judge also prohibits Price from contacting the injured victims or other persons involved in the isolated shooting incident. All persons charged/arrested are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law,” the statement revealed.
Police initially reported that 12 were injured in the South Carolina mall shooting. The number was later increased to 14 people. Of the injured, at least nine people suffered gunshot wounds.
Authorities revealed that five others sustained injuries while trying to escape the gunfire. Some of the injuries included broken bones and a head injury.
Police are witnesses to contact 803-545-3525 with any information they may have regarding the mall shooting.
