Last week, GDS Architects won a competition to design a tower in Incheon, South Korea. The crystalline structure, called Tower Infinity is designed to seem to disappear through optical technology involving cameras and a special skin, the architects said.

Instead of symbolizing prominence as another of the world's tallest and best towers, Tower Infinity sets itself apart by celebrating the global community rather than focusing on itself, said Charles Wee, a principal of GDS.

The tower is planned to have the second-tallest observation deck in the world, at 1,286 feet, and will rise to a height of 1,476 feet. At the base of the tower is retail space, a water park and sports facilities.

Construction is scheduled to finish in 2014.
