Sarah Chalke is set to guest star in next week’s installment of “Speechless.”

Chalke will appear in Season 2, episode 10 as Melanie, the mother of Ray’s (Mason Cook) girlfriend Taylor (Sedona James). According to the synopsis for the installment, Ray brokers a meeting between Melanie and his mom Maya (Minnie Driver), only to discover that they have a history.

Chalke is known for playing the second Rebecca “Becky” Conner on the ABC sitcom “Roseanne.” Although Chalke is returning for the 2018 revival of the Matt Williams-created series, Variety reported that the 41-year-old Canadian actress is playing a different character.

In addition, Chalke starred as Dr. Elliot Reid on the NBC-turned-ABC comedy series “Scrubs.” She also played Stella Zinman on the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” and voices Beth Smith on Adult Swim’s animated science-fiction series “Rick and Morty.” She also had a recurring role in Season 3 of the ABC-turned-TBS sitcom “Cougar Town.”

Elsewhere in the next episode on “Speechless,” JJ (Micah Fowler) and Dylan (Kyla Kenedy) have their first fight after she leveraged him in an attempt to land a family dog. Dylan then takes a vow of silence to better understand what it is to be her brother. Meanwhile, Jimmy (John Ross Bowie) drives Kenneth (Cedric Yarbrough) crazy by gaming a supermarket giveaway to score free Christmas turkeys.

In addition to Chalke and James, other guest stars in the episode are Cole Massie and Jonathan Slavin. Massie, who made his debut on the show earlier this season, plays Logan, Taylor’s brother and JJ’s nemesis. Slavin, meanwhile, portrays Mr. Powers, a character that has recurred on the show since last season.

“Speechless” Season 2, episode 10, titled “S-I-- SILENT N-I—NIGHT,” airs on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. The episode, which was written by Danny Chun, Shana Goldberg-Meehan and Dan Holden and directed by Christine Gernon, airs as part of Disney|ABC’s special “25 Days of Christmas” programming event.
