Mysterio might not be the villain of the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” sequel after all. Don’t worry, Jake Gyllenhaal is still set to play Mysterio in “Far From Home,” but it seems Spider-Man won’t see him as a threat.

At Brazil CCXP, Gyllenhaal gave his character an introduction at the Spidey panel alongside Tom Holland and Jacob Batalon. “Mysterio is a cool new hero that’s been recruited by Nick Fury cause of a threat that’s facing the world, and he teams up with Spider-Man to face that threat,” Gyllenhaal revealed.

He said that his actual camaraderie with the 22- year-old helped make their storyline even more believable. Holland added that the two have an interesting relationship in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.

“The amazing story in this film is the relationship between Spider-Man and Mysterio,” Holland said. “It’s not your average story. We are brothers in arms. We are a team and we are teaming up to take down this crazy force, which is the Elementals.”

It seems the Elementals are being portrayed as the main villains in the “Spider-Man” sequel, due out this summer. In the Marvel comics, the Elementals were four beings who were cast out of their own universe and landed on Earth about a millennia ago. They were banished again to a different universe. They finally found a way to return in the modern day and wanted to conquer Earth once more.

The appearance at the Brazil fan convention gave plenty of information on who will be fighting Spider-Man, but it also revealed another “Avengers: Infinity War” survivor. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) will apparently survive being turned to dust. He’ll recruit Mysterio in the first post-“Avengers: Endgame” film.

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” hits theaters July 5, 2019.
