  • "Splitgate" will remain in open beta until the developers are ready to launch the full game
  • Backend system and server improvements are currently being worked on
  • Additional features will be implemented along with technical enhancements

The first-person arena shooter “Splitgate” is currently suffering from success, as the game’s rise in popularity caused technical server-side issues to emerge and forced the developers to work on a solution posthaste.

Splitgate” was supposed to launch into its full 1.0 release version this month. However, the sudden spike in interest across the gaming community has caused the game’s servers to buckle under the pressure, causing major network issues and long queue times that prevented its many players from joining or enjoying any matches.

The game will remain in open beta indefinitely, PC Gamer reported, as the developers try to find a fix for the problem. “Splitgate’s” open beta launch was met with unprecedented numbers of players across PC and consoles. The game was put under maintenance to give developer 1047 Games enough breathing room to expand server capacity and fix underlying network issues.

However, their efforts proved insufficient as the game grew in popularity over the following weeks. 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx said that they are working on accommodating even more players to the game’s overloaded servers.

“[“Splitgate”] will remain in open beta for the foreseeable future as the small studio continues to scale the popular arena portal shooter that has seen more than 10 million downloads in its first 30 days of open beta,” Proulx announced.

Additionally, Proulx mentioned that the studio is working on improving “Splitgate’s” beyond simple server capacity upgrades. 1047 Games is updating the game’s backend for added in-game stability and concurrent player capacity to reduce queue times. Proulx also said that they want to be “prepared for a massive scale” once the game’s full version releases in the future.

All of these backend improvements will be coming to “Splitgate” alongside other updates that include new features and necessary balance changes.

“Splitgate’s” player count exploded when it entered the open beta stage. The game saw an average of 28,392 concurrent players on Steam over the past 30 days with a peak player count of 67,724 according to Steam Charts. This record does not account for players on consoles.

Players can try out “Splitgate’s” open beta for free on Steam and relevant console game stores. However, expect long queue times and connectivity issues as the servers try to accommodate more players than they can handle.
