Sports clubs a good place for Australians to tackle mental-health issues
Wagga sporting clubs dealing with mental illness have been offered a helping hand with an introduction of a new program designed to address mental health issues.
The new Good Sport, Good Mental Heath - Build Your Game program aims to increase awareness about depression, anxiety and related alcohol and drug problems. The program was launched by council.
The program was attended by Wagga mayor Kerry Pascoe and former Newcastle Knights player and Australian Drug Foundation spokesperson, Marc Glanville.
Presentations of the Good Sports South West club of the year award and the RTA safe transport award also too place at the meeting.
Sports clubs are the hub of most Australian communities and provide a good way to change the way people think about drinking, said John Rogerson, CEO Australian Drug Foundation.
