KEY POINTS

  • Spotify is a helpful app for those who love to listen to music
  • Its current features, however, aren't very helpful in discovering new singles and albums
  • Spotify is working on a new feature that will help users stay updated with the latest singles and albums from the artists they like

Spotify might be a very helpful tool for those who love to listen to music, but it's not that helpful when it comes to discovering new tracks. The sheer number of tracks featured on the app, and the lack of a feature that will help filter out music that users won't be interested in, makes it difficult for users to find new music from the artists they like.

Android Police noted that the app's “Discover Weekly” and “Release Radar” playlists aren't really helpful in discovering new music. A new feature that might arrive in a future update, however, might be.

Spotify is working on a new feature called “Follow Feed.” This feature, first spotted by code hunter Jane Manchun Wong, will help users stay updated on the “New releases from artists you follow and more.” That description sounds like “Follow Feed” will help users discover what's new about the people they follow by showing their new songs and tracks on the app's homescreen.

Android Police noted that this new feature, if it ever gets released soon, will provide users with a “central place to discover new singles and albums” from artists they are interested in. Follow Feed will work differently from other ways Spotify allows users to search for new music from their favorite singers and artists, and here's why:

  • First, it is expected to show new songs and album right after the music streaming platform includes them on its list. This is different from “Release Radar,” which doesn't include full albums, and usually makes the songs available some time after they are actually released.
  • Second, the “New Releases for you” subsection on the homescreen, as well as the one on the Discover section, might help in looking for songs. Users, however, will need to do a bit of searching in order to find new singles or albums. In other words, this one requires more effort.

Follow Feed will surpass both by showing singles and albums as they are released, proudly displaying them on the user's feed as he uses the app.

The new feature might sound interesting, especially for those who love to listen to fresh tracks from the artists they like, but as of now there's new release date yet. Fans better stay tuned in for more updates as they come.
