Sprint Cancels Palm Pre $100 Offer - fastest offer ever
Sprint Nextel Corp. pulled a $100 service credit offer that promised to slash half off the price of the Palm Inc. Pre.
A spokesman for the company said the offer was erroneously made available in the company's system.
After further internal review today, the offer of a port-in service credit of $100 to new customers who buy the Palm Pre has been pulled, because it was put into the system in error, according to a statement released by Sprint.
While Sprint has the flexibility to offer such a discount on an individual basis, it wasn't intended to be a formal offer.
Palm said it will honor its obligation to anyone who purchased a Pre during the brief window in which this offer was open.
The service credit, which was available to new customers looking to switch from another carrier to Sprint, was looked at as an aggressive way to increase its market share after loosing many users over the past two years.
The credit amounted to a $100 discount on the $200 Pre, which has been positioned as the flagship device for the Overland Park, Kan., carrier.
While the touchscreen device has been moderately successful, it hasn't done much to draw new subscribers.
