Sprint Settles Second Privacy Case
Sprint Nextel Corp. said on Thursday that it had secured a $1 million settlement from 1st Source Information Specialists in its case against the company related to the sale of call detail records.
Sprint said it has filed lawsuits against three companies it says were engaged in fraudulently obtaining and selling customer information. It filed cases against 1st Source and All Star Investigations Inc. in January.
Our customers are well-served by this result. We are the first carrier to reach a judgment of this magnitude against a data broker, said Heidi Salow, senior counsel, Sprint Nextel Office of Privacy. It sends a strong message that Sprint Nextel does not tolerate the deceptive practices employed by these bad actors.
The first lawsuit was filed against All Star investigations Inc. (ASI) in January. It was settled in June with a permanent injunction.
The wireless company said that it is still awaiting outcome of the final lawsuit, filed against San Marco & Associates in March.
