  • "Kingdom Hearts Dark Road" has been delayed due to COVID-19
  • Instead of disappointments though, fans gave a surprising reaction to the news
  • There is still no specific release date for "Kingdom Hearts Dark Road" after the delay

The “Kingdom Hearts” community received a massive blow on Monday after Square Enix announced the delay of the game’s mobile spinoff.

“Kingdom Hearts Dark Road” is a smartphone game that was initially scheduled to be released this Spring 2020. However, because of the COVID-19 crisis, it has been forcefully moved to a later and unspecified date.

“Due to current conditions, development for KINGDOM HEARTS DARK ROAD has been delayed,” the game’s official Twitter account announced. “We apologize for the late update, as we were trying to find some means of making a Spring release.

“Another announcement will be coming in early June, so please stay tuned.”

The said “Kingdom Hearts” mobile version is a fast-paced combat game that will be accessible through the “Kingdom Hearts Union X” app on IOS and Android. It will be a standalone experience though, and players will not need to play “Union X” to access the upcoming title.

However, instead of showing frustration to another gaming delay, fans were pretty much united and showed their support to the game – far from the disappointment shown by supporters of other games that were delayed.

“We understand! Plans have certainly been disrupted all over the place, we appreciate the effort to try and maintain your initial promise but it's okay! Thanks for the communication,” one fan commented.

“Thank you to the whole staff! Even Sora had to sit back and patiently regain his strength in times of trouble,” another supporter wrote.

Much of the comments in the Twitter announcement were also filled with supportive messages.

It is still unknown if the game will still be released this 2020, but it won’t be surprising if Square Enix decides to delay it to early 2021 since they just released “Kingdom Hearts III Re:mind” last January.

Moreover, the game is not the first (and probably won’t be the last) to be affected by the coronavirus crisis that has shut down businesses all over the world and forced some to adopt work-from-home set-ups.

Just recently, the upcoming Nintendo Switch game “Ninjala” has also been delayed due to COVID-19. From its May 27 launch, the release of the free-to-play multiplayer action video game has been moved to June 24.

Other games such as “The Last of Us Part 2,” “Iron Man VR,” “Ghost Of Tsushima,” and Amazon’s “new World – to name a few – have also been forced to reschedule their respective launches due to the delays caused by the global pandemic.

Fortunately, the likes of “The Last of Us Part 2” and “Ghost of Tsushima” have already been given new release dates.

It is still unknown when “Kingdom Hearts Dark Road” will be launched, but fans are certainly hoping it will be this 2020.
