Square Enix Reveals 2 New 'Final Fantasy 7' Mobile Games
KEY POINTS
- Square Enix introduces "The First Soldier" and "Ever Crisis" for mobile devices
- "First Soldier" is a battle royale game set in the "Final Fantasy 7" world
- "Ever Crisis" compiles all of the games related to "Final Fantasy 7" into one playable package
The first State of Play presentation of 2021 unveiled an exciting look at “Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade,” an additional story chapter focusing on Yufie, one of the main party members in the original game. Not long after, Square Enix also revealed two additional “FF7” games that are coming to both Android and iOS systems.
“Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier” is a battle royale game that pits potential candidates of the SOLDIER program against one another, according to a press release. Meanwhile, “Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis” will compile every single game set in the “Final Fantasy 7” world into one package.
“First Soldier” is set before the events of the original game and features mechanics similar to other battle royale shooters like “PUBG” or “Fortnite.” In this case, “First Soldier” mixes things up by including magic spells from “Final Fantasy 7” as part of a player’s arsenal. Additionally, Chocobo mounts will also be available to help players traverse the map.
Meanwhile, “Ever Crisis” is a more traditional “Final Fantasy” experience that’s closer to the original games. The game will cover all of the events related to “Final Fantasy 7,” including the ones from “Crisis Core,” “Dirge of Cerberus” and more. Events from the “Advent Children” movie are also included.
“Ever Crisis” will also include additional story chapters, including one story arc possibly related to a younger version of Sephiroth, and these chapters will be released in monthly increments, The Verge reported.
This game features turn-based combat and an isometric camera perspective during exploration. The visuals appear to be a mix of the classic “Final Fantasy 7” style and that of the remake, with each visual style alternating depending on whether the player is exploring or fighting enemies.
“Ever Crisis” is essentially another remake of “Final Fantasy 7” but with a focus on covering the entirety of the game’s established lore and world. It is similar to “Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition,” which is a mobile version of the “Final Fantasy XV” game for PC and consoles.
“First Soldier” is set to release sometime in 2021, while “Ever Crisis” is due to arrive next year. Both titles will be free to download, but they will include in-app purchases.
