Stanley Cup Betting Odds 2015: Blackhawks, Kings, Ducks Among Favorites To Win NHL Championship

The 2014-2015 NHL season is set to begin on Wednesday night, following a four-month offseason without many bold offseason storylines. Last season ended with the Los Angeles Kings defeating the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals in a battle of the two biggest media markets.

The upcoming season could again have big-market teams competing for the title. Los Angeles won its second title in four years, and is looking to become the first team to win three championships in a five-year span since the Edmonton Oilers did it in the late 1980s. The oddsmakers have given L.A. almost as good of a chance as any team to win the 2015 Stanley Cup with 10/1 odds.

The Kings made one of the biggest signings in the offseason, by inking Marian Gaborik to a seven-year contract. The club acquired the 32-year-old prior to the trade deadline, and he went on to become one of the Kings' key contributors in the postseason, leading the league with 14 playoff goals.

The Chicago Blackhawks are the favorites to win it all at 13/2. They lost to the Kings in seven games in the Western Conference Finals. It marked the third time in five seasons that the team had reached the conference finals, and Chicago went on to win the Cup in 2010 and 2013.

All of the top favorites come from the Western Conference. Tying the Kings for the second-best odds are the Anaheim Ducks and St. Louis Blues. The Ducks were the No.1 seed in the West last season, and the Blues fell to the Blackhawks in the first round.

The Boston Bruins are the favorites in the Eastern Conference, after leading the NHL with 117 points. They are followed by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who blew a 3-1 series lead to the Rangers in the conference semifinals. The Rangers are 20/1 favorites despite reaching the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1994.

After reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, the Montreal Canadiens are not expected to repeat their success of last season. Nine teams have been given better odds of winning the title.
