  • Ex-Chicago Blackhawk Daniel Carcillo files a lawsuit against the Canadian Hockey League
  • Carcillo claims he experienced violence and sexual hazing during his junior hockey years in the OHL
  • The CHL declined to give a further comment regarding the case

Former NHL player and Stanley Cup winner Daniel Carcillo is leading a class-action lawsuit against the Canadian Hockey League for alleged violence and sexual hazing. The Canadian claims to be one of the victims, saying he is “permanently traumatized” by the experience during his junior hockey years in the OHL, and now he is asking for damages.

Along with Garrett Taylor, Carcillo went to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Thursday and filed a statement of claim. Taylor used to play in the Western Hockey League, which is also a member organization in the CHL.

Included in the list of defendants are the OHL, WHL, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, as well as all 60 teams that play under the CHL umbrella.

According to a statement from their legal counsel, Koskie Minsky LLP, as reported by CBC Canada, the lawsuit "is on behalf of children aged 15-17 who were sexually and physically assaulted, hazed and otherwise abused while away from home and playing for CHL teams."

In his own statement, Carcillo said: "This case is on behalf of underage minors who suffered violent hazing, physical and sexual assault, and psychological trauma while playing major junior hockey. I was one of those kids when I played in the OHL. I know there are many more just like me."

Meanwhile, documents obtained by TMZ Sports have the 35-year-old claiming that “he was peed and spat on by veterans, smacked in the bare butt by a sawed-off goalie stick, and also forced to attend and participate in sex orgy parties.”

In response, the CHL has opted to refuse to give further comments as an investigation is expected to ensue.

"We have not been served with any court documents and therefore have no comment at this time," the CHL told The Canadian Press via email.

Carcillo played nine seasons in the NHL and has won the Stanley Cup twice as a Chicago Blackhawk in 2013 and 2015. He retired after winning his second title and has since resided with his family in Chicago, where he established the “Chapter 5 Foundation” that aims to provide support to people struggling with different types of mental illnesses and disorders. Over the course of his career, Carcillo logged in 429 games and racked up 48 goals.
