Finn’s dreams of making a difference will finally come true in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

The former stormtrooper left the darkside in favor of the resistance only to be seriously wounded during a face off with Kylo Ren in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” However, John Boyega, who plays the character, promises he’ll return with a vengeance in “The Last Jedi.”

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly during the “Star Wars” celebration in Orlando, Florida, the actor promised, “Finn’s a big deal.,” and teased a major change in status for the character once the ex-stormtrooper recovers from his injuries.

“The funny thing is, between ‘VII’ and ‘VIII’, Finn’s now a big deal! He is now a big deal. Imagine that — you get taken down by Kylo Ren [Adam Driver],” Boyega said. “Think about what the gossip’s going to be like in the Resistance. ‘Oh, that’s the guy that got slashed down by Kylo?’”

Fans may have previously heard a very different story from Boyega, who admitted that he’s been trolling “Star Wars” fans for some time. He told EW he’s been telling people that “Finn’s asleep the whole time, or just shows up at the end.” Boyega admitted, however, that’s not the case, though it seems possible given the magnitude of his apparent injuries.

“Finn’s in a bad way at the end of ‘VII.’ He has a lot of issues. He got slashed with a saber, and that took him down real hard, so he’s in a coma,” he said. “That suit, that whole thing helps him to recover. But we’re not sure whether that means he’ll wake up.”

Boyega’s answer tells us all that we need to know about Finn’s state in a trailer for the movie, released by Disney/LucasFilm in April. The only shot of Finn in the clip shows him lying unconscious in a pod. The pod appears to be travelling through space, though it’s not clear where it’s headed or why.

That’s not the only confusing moment from the “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” trailer — in fact, much of it is shrouded in mystery. The two-minute long trailer opens with Rey (Daisey Ridley) gasping for air as she tries to get her bearings. A voiceover belonging to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) instructs her to stay calm, breathe deep, and tap into what she can see.

Rey isn’t the only familiar face “Star Wars” fans see in the “Last Jedi” trailer. Po (Oscar Isaacs) briefly makes an appearance, ducking for cover as his X-Wing blows up. There’s also a shadowy figure who calls for the destruction of the Jedis.

The film is set to hit theaters December 15, 2017. “Star Wars: Episode IX” will follow on May 24, 2019. That film went into production in 2016, around the same time as “The Last Jedi,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

Little is known about the plot for “Star Wars: Episode IX” at this time. A blog post on StarWars.Com confirmed that Colin Trevorrow will be directing the film. Everything else, including the title, details, and casting for the movie, remains under wraps at this time.
