“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is expected to introduce the first lesbian characters in the movies. Although the characters don’t play an important role in the film, their inclusion marks a bold new step by the franchise in its quest for inclusivity.

The following article contains “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” spoilers.

Fans who have been following the spoilers of the film know that previous reports had suggested that there is a kissing scene with two characters who are not the main cast members. According to Bespin Bulletin, those two characters are two random female Resistance fighters.

While the franchise has introduced a few gay characters, they have only been in the games and the novels. This will be the first time that lesbian characters are featured in the movies. Since this is a kissing scene, it may be just before a big battle against the First Order.

As far as the main characters in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” are concerned, the romance between Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) continues. There may not be a full-blown romance of the two characters, but the fans will get to see little hints about their relationship, like Rose packing Finn’s bag before he leaves for Pasaana.

The other big relationship in the film is between the Resistance pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Zorri Bliss (Keri Russell). The two characters had a past together, according to Bespin Bulletin.

Zorri will play an important role in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” She will take the heroes to a droid repair shop to help reprogram C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and then she will help the heroes escape Kijimi when the First Order Star Destroyers orbit the planet to prevent their escape.
