Details of the final battle in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” have surfaced online. Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) will have a big moment in the action sequence that will be reminiscent of his grandfather Darth Vader.

The following article contains spoilers from “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

The main villain in the final film in the sequel trilogy will not be Kylo Ren. Instead, the new Supreme Leader of the First Order will team up with the last Jedi Rey (Daisy Ridley) to taken on a new threat from the Beyond.

According to a new report by Making Star Wars, The Emperor will be back in the upcoming film, but the role will not be played by Ian McDiarmid. Palpatine is dead, but his spirit will possess a Dark Side acolyte, played by Matt Smith.

The final battle therefore will be between Kylo Ren and Rey on the one side, and the Emperor on the other. The fight is said to be “intense” that will eventually to death of the acolyte’s body, but that doesn’t mean Palpatine is dead.

The Emperor’s spirit will posses Kylo Ren’s body, but the Supreme Leader is strong enough to resist the spirit. The character has a Darth Vader moment in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” that will be reminiscent of the original trilogy, as he asks Rey to kill him.

It isn’t clear what Rey does next to kill the Emperor. Will this encounter lead to the death of Kylo Ren? Or does he simply shed his Dark Side persona to become Ben Solo again?

Smith’s character has a connection to the Death Star graveyard that was seen in the first teaser trailer. A report by Screen Rant has confirmed that this is the wreckage of the second Death Star, and the heroes may be in Endor, where the Empire was finally defeated in the original trilogy.

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” will be released on Dec. 20. The film has been directed by JJ Abrams, and it is currently in the post production phase of development.
