'Starfield' E3 2021 Surprise, Release Details Leak Ahead Of Xbox And Bethesda's Showcase
KEY POINTS
- "Starfield" is the upcoming space exploration title from Bethesda
- The game was first announced in June 2018
- Neither Bethesda nor Microsoft has revealed the game's release date
Bethesda and Microsoft's supposed announcement about "Starfield" at the E3 2021 showcase may have been revealed ahead of the event.
The latest information about "Starfield" came from Bloomberg reporter and industry insider Jason Schreier. In one of the recent episodes of the "Triple Click" podcast, Schreier confirmed that Bethesda's upcoming space-faring game would be present at the E3 2021 show. He also noted that the specific release date of the game would be revealed at the said event.
Schreier believes "Starfield" would launch sometime in the late part of 2022. Sadly, this is the only information the insider shared about the game.
Bethesda announced the game and released a teaser trailer in 2018. Aside from its game engine and the periodic supposed in-game screenshots, information about the game remains scarce.
It is worth noting that neither Bethesda nor Microsoft has confirmed that "Starfield" would be at its E3 2021 event. However, fans believe that the teaser image, which Microsoft shared to announce its E3 showcase, suggested the game's presence at the show. As of writing, "Starfield" has no confirmed platforms yet.
When asked about the title's definitive platforms during a 2018 interview with Gamespot, Bethesda Director and Executive Producer Todd Howard said, "I'm gonna be honest, I don't know the answer to that yet."
"I can't absolutely say yes to [leaving current generation console behind]. We're not going to limit the game that way yet. I'm willing to [leave current generation consoles behind] but it's not a priority right now. I'd put it that way," Howard added.
However, things may have already changed since Bethesda's mother company Zenimax is now owned by Microsoft. Rumors have it that "Starfield" might exclusively launch on Microsoft Windows and Xbox.
Meanwhile, the Xbox and Bethesda E3 2021 Showcase is scheduled for June 13. The stream starts at 10 a.m. PT or 1 p.m. ET or 6 p.m. BST. The Xbox maker is anticipated to discuss its new games and projects during the event.
