KEY POINTS

  • Sources report that WWE may have Vince McMahon in the Hall of Fame
  • Doing it so soon after his legal troubles may turn off fans and performers alike
  • McMahon stepped down from his post due to an alleged sexual misconduct

Former WWE CEO and chairman Vince McMahon stepped down from his position in July after news broke out a month earlier that he was involved in multiple scandals involving an investigation about sexual misconduct in the workplace.

WWE executive vice president and current chief content officer Paul Levesque, better known as Triple H, has since been elevated to McMahon's former post as creative head and has been putting on great shows on Raw, SmackDown and their most recent pay-per-views.

However, McMahon's involvement with WWE may not entirely be over just yet after The Sun reported that the company may consider enshrining him in the company's Hall of Fame during the week of WrestleMania 39.

An insider spoke with the outlet and revealed that the main thrust in them doing so is the promotion's wants of recognizing his efforts for the business.

"There are discussions about how to pay tribute to his achievements of turning the small-town wrestling biz into a global business venture. Fans may not have always liked the way he handled storylines and treated some talent, but his efforts to take the sport to the world cannot be underestimated," said the report.

"His departure was pretty unceremonious in terms of the business behind the scenes, but the sport is about fans. And as controversial as it may seem, there are fans who feel he deserves a sendoff."

It is true that McMahon is the progenitor of the modern pro wrestling business after taking over regional territories in the United States by holding shows in their areas while also signing their talent which included the acquisition of industry superstar Hulk Hogan from the American Wrestling Association in 1984.

However, deciding to rush things and place him in the Hall of Fame at such a sensitive time in the company's current regime could compel fans and performers alike to be up in arms about it as was noted by The Sun's insider.

The company insider also revealed that Stephanie McMahon has "openly spoken about her father's legacy since his departure" and that Levesque "has huge respect for Vince [McMahon]."

Having him enter the WWE Hall of Fame barely a year after his controversial and unceremonious resignation via Twitter might not be the best course of action.

The powers that be at WWE may be better off giving the situation some time to blow over and instead have him inducted at WrestleMania 40 or later, which will likely give the board of directors' independent investigation enough time for substantial findings to surface.

The Wall Street Journal's report on McMahon provides serious allegations that the company may want to take its time sifting through its own investigation before doing anything else.

How WWE handles this situation moving forward is something to watch because of all the moving parts involved.
