Stephanie Prezant: University of Delaware Senior Dead After Climbing Mohonk Mountain [PHOTO]
Stephanie Prezant, a Universirty of Delaware senior from Haworth, N.J., died on Sunday, April 29, after a climbing accident on Mohonk Mountain in New York.
New York State Police say that Prezant, 22, was part of a group climbing on the Trapps Cliff section the of preserve on Sunday afternoon.
While she had successfully ascended the climb, the UD senior was returning to the cliff base when she fell about 20 feet and hit her head on the rocks.
Prezant wasn't wearing a helmet, Capt. Joseph Tripodo said, according to the AP.
She was treated at the scene and transported to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where she died of her injuries.
I am deeply saddened by Stephanie's death, and I offer our deepest condolences to her family and friends. There are no words that fully express the grief that follows the death of one so young. I urge Stephanie's friends to reach out for support during this difficult time, Dawn Thompson, dean of students and associate vice president for student life, said in a statement.
The preserve is in Gardiner, 70 miles north of New York City in the Hudson Valley.
As details of the incident are stil emegering, the investigation into how the female student fell is continuing.
Prezant was scheduled to graduate in May with majors in criminal justice and psychology.
