Stephen Amell Reacts To Tom Welling Joining ‘Crisis On Infinite Earths’ Crossover
Stephen Amell is welcoming yet another superhero to the Arrowverse, but this time, it’s someone who has been around even longer than the Green Arrow actor. Tom Welling is confirmed to reprise his “Smallville” role as Superman for the epic crossover.
“There’d be no crossover without Tom Welling. So Tom Welling is in the crossover,” he wrote on Twitter along with an “Anchorman” gif.
“Arrow” fans shouldn’t be too surprised to hear that. After years of rumors, Amell has recently been vocal about wanting Welling on the CW’s annual crossover.
“I would want Tom Welling,” Amell said in an interview at Comic-Con International in San Diego, according to CBR. “I want what the fans want.”
“Smallville” wrapped after 10 seasons in 2011, but it was clearly a big influence on the current Arrowverse.
Amell revealed last year that he’d auditioned for Welling’s CW show “Hellcats.” However, Amell didn’t win the part.
Now, Amell and Welling get to play DC superheroes together. Of course, Welling won’t be the only Man of Steel. Tyler Hoechlin will play his typical Arrowverse role as Clark Kent while Brandon Routh will don the tights as the Kingdom Come version of Superman.
“For eight years, ‘Arrow’ has stood on the shoulders of ‘Smallville,’” executive producer Marc Guggenheim said in a statement (via TVLine). “Simply put, there would be no ‘Arrow,’ and no Arrowverse, without it. So when we first started talking about ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths,’ our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”
Last year’s crossover event, “Elseworlds,” included an homage to “Smallville.” The old Kent Farm appeared as Remy Zero’s “Save Me,” AKA the “Smallville” theme song, played.
The “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover includes five episodes spread across “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Batwoman.” The episodes will also include “Black Lightning” star Cress Williams.
“Crisis on Infinite Earths,” the 2019 Arrowverse crossover, airs on Dec. 8 through Dec. 10 and wraps up after a hiatus with two more installments on Jan. 14.
