Stephen Curry Ankle Injury: Coach Steve Kerr Provides Update
There was likely to have been a collective heart skipping a beat moment in the Bay Area on Tuesday night when Stephen Curry went down with a non-contact ankle injury with just over three minutes remaining in the first quarter of the game between Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Pelicans.
If there is one priority for Steve Kerr’s team in the final two games of the regular season that is to not suffer an injury ahead of the playoffs. And it was the most crucial member of the team that went down after rolling his ankle while in possession of the ball.
Curry picked himself up and even played for a minute and did not look too uncomfortable when he scored a corner jumper from the baseline. But immediately after that play he signaled to the bench and then went straight toward the locker rooms.
The Warriors confirmed it was a mild right sprain and that curry would not return for the rest of the game, which they went on to win 112-103, due to precautionary reasons. The fact that he ran off the court without a limp should indicate it was not a serious injury.
The Mercury News’ Warriors writer Mark Medina revealed that coach Kerr is not concerned about Curry’s injury being serious and expects him to be ready for Game 1 when the playoffs get underway this weekend. The Warriors point guard is almost certain to sit out their final regular season game against Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night.
Kerr had opted to rest Kevin Durant and Andrew Bogut for the game against the Pelicans as he looks to give his key players some much-needed rest before they begin their campaign to claim a third straight NBA championship. Durant could return for the final game, or Kerr might just opt to sit out the small forward to avoid any chance of injury in the final inconsequential regular season game.
