Stephen Curry Earns Degree 13 Years After Making Jump To NBA

Earning an educational degree is important for any athlete, especially once he or she exhausts his competitive years.

In the case of Stephen Curry, graduating with a degree even if it comes 13 years after is relevant.

The two-time NBA MVP is set to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Davidson College.

However, Curry will not be able to attend the commencement exercises set to take place this coming weekend, USA Today reported.

Curry and the Golden State Warriors advanced to the Western Conference Finals last week eliminating the Memphis Grizzlies.

They will face the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, May 18.

Regardless, the fact remains that Curry will finish with a degree and that handing him his diploma can be done at some point in the future per an official statement from the institution.

"Davidson College looks forward to an opportunity on campus in the future when we can present his diploma," the school said in an official statement that was posted on social media.

Davidson also added that Curry was one semester shy of graduating when he enrolled this past spring.

The three-time NBA champion worked with two unnamed members of the Davidson faculty.

One of them is from Stanford University, while the other was from the University of California-Santa Cruz.

The eight-time All-Star led the NCAA in scoring with an average of 28.6 points per game. Curry attended the North Carolina school from 2006 to 2009.

In the 2009 NBA Draft, Curry was selected seventh overall by the Warriors.

Aside from completing his degree, the school is most likely to retire the jersey number of the 34-year-old cager.

Davidson College only retires the number of players who graduate, ESPN reported.

As for the NBA Western Conference Finals, Curry and company will have their hands full against a Luka Doncic-led Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavs blasted the Phoenix Suns in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals on Sunday, May 15 to the tune of 123-90.

The Mavericks hold a 3-1 edge over the Warriors in their head-to-head matchup.

As for the odds on who will win the Western Conference Finals, SI.com has reported that the Dubs are a -255 favorite to advance. Meanwhile, the Mavs are a +235 underdog.
