Stephen Curry is finally set to make his return. The Golden State Warriors’ star will play Thursday night against the Toronto Raptors, suiting up for the first time since breaking his hand over four months ago.

Curry only played four games in the 2019-2020 season before suffering the devastating injury on Oct. 30, 2019. He missed the All-Star Game for the first time in seven years.

It’s the first time in eight years that Curry and the Warriors will miss the playoffs. Golden State (14-48) isn’t close to being in contention with an NBA-worst .226 winning percentage and a minus-8.7 point differential.

The Warriors have reached the NBA Finals in five straight years, averaging 64 wins per season.

Even before Curry got hurt, Golden State was headed for its worst season in several years. After losing Klay Thompson to a torn ACL and Kevin Durant to the Brooklyn Nets in the summer, the Warriors went 1-3 with Curry to start the season. Golden State was outscored by 47 points in those four contests.

The Warriors rank last in offensive rating (103.9) and 25th in defensive rating (112.5). Golden State led the league last year with 115.0 points per 100 possessions.

Curry is averaging 20.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists in 28.0 minutes per game. He’s shooting 40.9% from the field, making just 24.3% of his limited three-point attempts. The Warriors have been outscored by 12.2 points per 100 possessions with Curry on the floor.

D’Angelo Russell started alongside Curry in Golden State’s backcourt in October. The guard has since been traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Andrew Wiggins and draft picks.

Wiggins leads the Warriors with 20.1 points per game since the trade. Rookie Eric Paschall averages the most points of any Golden State player that’s currently on the roster and has played at least 10 games with the team, scoring 13.8 points per contest.

Curry averaged 27.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game last season in 69 contests. The three-time champion made 43.7% of the 11.7 threes he attempted per game.

Curry averages 28.6 points per game against the Raptors in his career. That’s his highest scoring average against any NBA team.

The point guard averaged 30.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists in Golden State’s 2019 NBA Finals loss against Toronto. Curry shot 40.8% from the field and 33.8% from three-point range in six games.

The reigning champion Raptors (43-18) have the second-best record in the East.
