The new Disney+ original series starring Steve Carell shows the actor playing a therapist named Alan Strauss who is chained up, as he deals with his patient, who is a serial killer. The upcoming series titled "The Patient" is slated to stream on Hulu.

The official trailer of the psychological thriller features Carell alongside Domhnall Gleeson, who plays his patient named Sam Fortner. It starts with the serial killer sharing his problem with anger and asking for help.

"I'm not content, I get angry," Fortner says and asks the therapist, Strauss if this is something he can help with. Following a positive response from Alan, Sam begins to visit him often.

After we get a glimpse of the therapist's imperfect life, he is seen sitting in front of the patient tied up with a chain during an apparent therapy session. The trailer was shared on Twitter Thursday by FX Networks.

"He's been held captive by a serial killer who wants his help," they captioned the post. "Watch the OFFICIAL TRAILER for FX’s The Patient. Starring Steve Carell and Domhnall Gleeson. Streaming 8/30. Only on @hulu."

Fans took to the comments section to share their reactions.

"I shouldn’t find the serial killer so cute, right? Well... too bad," one of the fans wrote about Gleeson's portrayal in the trailer. Another fan predicted that the show will get Emmy and Golden Globes in the future.

"The Patient" will start streaming on the Hulu platform on Aug. 30 and it will consist of 10 episodes. Aside from Carell and Gleeson, the series will also feature David Alan Grier, Andrew Leeds, Linda Emond and Laura Niemi.

Apart from "The Patient," Carell will be next seen in the comedy fantasy movie, "Imaginary Friends," which is expected to release on Nov. 17, 2023. The flick is under post-production. It is helmed by Carell's "The Office" co-star, John Krasinski.

Carell will also lend his voice to an animated character named Gru in the movie, "Despicable Me 4." Gleeson, on the other hand, will be next seen in another series, "The White House Plumbers," where he will be playing John Dean's character.
