'Steve Jobs' Biography Tops Nielsen BookScan Best-seller List
Steve Jobs, the biography of the late Apple Inc. co-founder that was released on Oct. 24, became the top U.S. best-seller in its first week on the market.
More than 379,000 copies of the book were sold in the United States in its first week, the highest number for any book since Nov. 10, 2010, when George W. Bush's Decision Points and Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth topped the best-seller lists.
Moreover, the Jobs biography is already the 18th best-selling book of the year, according to the Nielsen Co.'s BookScan. Authored by Walter Isaacson, the bio is now one place ahead of John Grisham's The Confession (Dell) and one place behind Rick Riordan's The Son of Neptune (Hyperion).
After Jobs' death, publisher Simon & Schuster advanced the release date of the book to Oct. 24 from Nov. 21. A day after the 571-page biography hit the stores, it was released on Apple's iBooks online store and Amazon's Kindle. It instantly topped e-book charts and remains atop both the Kindle Store chart and the regular Amazon chart. Amazon is expecting the book will be its top seller of the year.
The United Kingdom edition of the book has become one of the fastest-selling nonfiction books there, with a sale of 37,244 copies at last count.
The Sony Corp. owns the film rights to the book.
