Steve Jobs' Private Memorial Held; Sister Mona Simpson Attended While Mother Still Clueless
Amid tight security and an elite gathering, Steve Jobs' memorial was held Sunday evening at the Memorial Church at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.
Apple Inc. spokesman Todd Wilder told Associated Press that it's a private event, and the details were not to be disclosed. But the Wall Street Journal reported dozens of people flocking from one church to another down a tree-lined sidewalk.
Top tech leaders and eminent personalities were invited to commemorate the visionary and the man behind the success of the tech giant Apple Inc. Onlookers and reporters who asked for details were given a uniform response by a security guard: This area (will) be closed for six to eight hours for a private event. No other details were revealed to any media organization.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Job's biological sister, novelist Mona Simpson, arrived at 5:30 pm, while other luminaries began arriving before 6 p.m. The guests were directed to the chapel, along the candle-lined path leading to the memorial church.
Jay Y. Lee, the son of the chief operating officer of Samsung and the heir apparent of South Korea's Samsung Group, which is engaged in legal battles with Apple around the world, also attended the memorial, according to a report.
Steve Jobs (1955-2011) was not only the co-founder of Apple Inc. but the soul and visionary who laid the foundation for its success and brought revolutionary products like the Mac, the iPod, the iPad and the iPhone to life.
Jobs died Oct. 5 after struggling for years with a rare form of pancreatic cancer.
