The Evolution Championship Series, better known to the gaming community as EVO, is firm in pushing through with this year's tournament despite the global threat caused by COVID-19.

Evo organizers said in a Twitter post that they are moving with their plan to hold the Evo 2020 on July 31 to August 2 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. They are, however, still keeping in touch with health agencies on the growing – and worsening – conditions of the virus.

“We are actively monitoring updates from the WHO, CDC, local government, and public health agencies regarding COVID-19 and continuing to assess the situation,” said the post, adding that whatever decision they will make will core on the health and safety of its attendees and staff.

The alarming case of COVID-19, which has turned into a worldwide pandemic, has crippled not only the economy, but the gaming hemisphere as well. Several tournaments have been cancelled due to health hazards. E3, the world's biggest gaming conference, was also postponed due to the same reason.

As the biggest fighting game tournament of this generation, Evo continues to gather the best gamers from all over the world to battle it out via a double elimination format. This year's installment will feature eight of the best fighting games such as “Street Fighter V: Champion Edition,” “Tekken 7,” Dragon Ball Fighter Z,” “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate,” “Samurai Showdown,” “Soulcalibur VI,” “Granblue Fantasy Versus” and “Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late.”

“Marvel vs. Capcom 2” will likewise be included in the lineup as the ninth main stage game in celebration of the game's 20th anniversary.
