Stoic’s ‘Banner Saga 3’ Kickstarter Close To Reaching Goal Days After Launch
Stoic is working on the third and final installment of its Viking-themed RPG “The Banner Saga.” Just like what it did with the previous installments, the indie studio is asking for help from fans and gamers who want to be part of the completion and witness the release of “Banner Saga 3.” Early this week, Stoic launched a Kickstarter project to generate enough funds for the conclusion of the series.
Last Tuesday, Stoic announced via the official “The Banner Saga” Twitter account that it launched the Kickstarter for the third game in the series. It’s been five days since the project was opened, and the game is already close to reaching its goal. As of writing, $190,096 has been pledged by 3,879 backers for the Kickstarter campaign. The initial goal is $200,000, so that means the studio just needs less than $10,000 more before it can confirm that the project is fully funded.
The Kickstarter campaign still has 37 days left, but interested players are advised to pledge as early as possible if they want to secure some exclusive goodies. The base amount a backer can pledge is $10, but this one does not come with a reward. The next tier costs $20, and it entitles one to have a digital copy of the game and the backer forums galleries or badge.
The top-tier pledge, called “The Executive,” costs $10,000. There is only one slot for this tier, and the lucky gamer will feel like a VIP for his or her name will be credited as “Executive Producer” in the credits. This is just one of the perks of this type of pledge. Other exclusive perks include a pass to the board meeting with the team, the attendance at the Global Game Conference and a number of exclusive “The Banner Saga”-themed items.
Aside from securing any of the limited slots among the top-tier pledges, showing support for the Kickstarter campaign as early as possible would also help unlock the stretch goals for the project. These stretch goals will bring more content and features to the game. Since the initial goal has not been reached yet, the details about the stretch goals remain concealed as of this time.
Stoic has also announced a special deal for first-time players. If they add $20 to any pledge they are securing for “Banner Saga 3,” they will get copies of the first two installments in the series via Steam or GOG. The downside here is the players will have to wait until the campaign closes before they can obtain the “Banner Saga 1 and Banner Saga 2 Complete Pack.”
“‘Banner Saga 3’ is a mythological Viking role-playing game. You travel through vast landscapes and fight epic tactical battles,” Stoic co-founder Arnie Jorgensen said of the game in the Kickstarter trailer. “The saga centers on mature, evolving storylines with the lives of your clansmen and families nearly do depend on the decisions that you make, how you face the end of the world and go on. This is the third and final piece of the long-awaited ‘Banner Saga’ trilogy.”
