While the viral "Storm Area 51" event page started as a joke, what began as a quickly-created Facebook page has now caused concern with some residents as they are said to be "preparing for the worst" when it comes to the Sept. 20 event.

As reported by the Independent, the event could potentially turn into "a disaster as people struggle with the difficult conditions in Nevada without proper preparation." The chaos is still occurring even though the event page that encouraged people to try to "see them aliens" was already shut down.

Joerg Arnu, a resident in the small town of Rachel, said he too had begun taking such precautions in case any large crowds arrive. Among the safeguards included were installing outdoor floodlights, fencing and "No Trespassing" signs on his property, as well as organizing a so-called "night watch" to keep up with whatever transpires.

Arnu also revealed that the military had taken their own steps, including installing razor wire on the Area 51 boundary, placing more cameras and lighting around the location, and putting up a spike barrier inside a gate. Additionally, he made note of a new sign warning that anyone who attempted to trespass would be arrested and fined $1,000.

The page's termination also didn't stop local officials from signing "emergency declarations" in response to what the event may bring. The concern even made its way up to the Federal Aviation Administration this week as they are said to have closed nearby air space. The U.S. Air Force also issued past warnings for people not to approach the gates around the Nevada Test and Training Range, which includes Area 51.

It's unclear what exactly will happen and how many people will show up to the tiny surrounding towns of Rachel and Hiko, but "hundreds of law enforcement officers and medics" are said to be on standby, along with the Nevada National Guard. However, it appears as though alien hunters already started arriving on the morning of Sept. 20, so it remains to be seen how everything will play out in actuality.
