KEY POINTS

  • Stormi just showed the world she could be patient
  • Kylie Jenner’s daughter stringently followed her mom’s instruction
  • Jenner made a deal that she would give her three chocolates if she waited for her mom to get back
  • Instead of touching the bowl of chocolates, Stormi repeatedly reminded herself to be patient
  • The challenge was called Fruit Snack challenge
  • The same was similar to the famous Marshmallow Experiment

Stormi, Kylie Jenner’s daughter with Scott Travis, just showed the world that even kids can display a tremendous amount of self-control and patience.

Jenner uploaded a short video clip on her Instagram account, giving instructions to her baby Stormi not to get the chocolates until she gets back. In the video, fans saw Jenner’s 2-year-old daughter “almost” touched the bowl of chocolates.

Realizing the instructions Jenner previously gave her, little Stormi stopped and straightened herself. She appeared to be struggling with the chocolate temptation but Jenner’s daughter diverted her attention and repeated the word “patience” instead until her mom came back from the bathroom.

To Jenner’s surprise, her baby abided by her rules and waited for her. Towards the end of the video, Jenner could be heard telling her daughter she could have three but Stormi bargained for more.

The video went viral on Twitter and several fans showed their adoration with Stormi’s patience.

People had been backlashing the Kardashians and Jenners as to how they rear their children. For example, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian. Jenner’s half-sisters received huge amounts of criticism over the Internet about how they’re disciplining their kids. The criticisms, of course, did not exclude the 22-year-old billionaire.

However, there are some netizens who saw Jenner’s ingenuity when it comes to nurturing Stormi. One netizen even defended Jenner and called her an “incredible mother.”

Another netizen lauded Jenner for raising a good kid.

What Jenner’s daughter did was called Fruit Snack Challenge. The mechanics were basic —an adult would give a handful of snacks to a toddler with an instruction to not eat any before walking away. A camera had to be set up first to monitor the child’s reaction to the instruction.

The Fruit Snack Challenge was relatively compared by the news outlet the Take Out to a 1972 psychology experiment of delayed gratification among children. More commonly known as the marshmallow experiment, researchers in Stanford administered these to hundreds of children.

Years after the experiment, the researchers did a follow-up study and tracked the participants’ progress. They reportedly found out that those children who exhibited a delay in gratification by waiting to receive the second marshmallow ended up with higher SAT scores, lower likelihood of obesity, better response to stress, better social skills and low levels of substance abuse.
