‘The Strain’ Season 3 Spoilers: 6 Things To Know Before The Premiere On FX
FX’s horror series, “The Strain,” is back with a third season. But before watching the citizens of New York fight the strigois and try to save the city from The Master’s devious plans, here’s everything you need to know before Season 3 premieres on Aug. 28:
1. Where We Left Off
The Season 2 finale ended on a tragic note. Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) committed suicide by touching her sword to the rail of a subway line in order avoid turning into a vampire. A showdown with Dr. Ephraim/Eph Goodweather’s (Corey Stoll) vampire wife Kelly (Natalie Brown) had caused her to be infested with worms in her body.
Meanwhile, Kelly took her and Eph’s son Zack (Max Charles) to The Master.
Elsewhere, Fet (Kevin Durand), Gus (Miguel Gomez), Setrakian (David Bradley) and Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones) had joined forces and fled the city on a boat with the Occido Lumen -- a book that will reveal how to kill The Master once and for all.
Additionally, Eldritch Palmer’s (Johnathan Hyde) lover Coco was killed by The Master.
2. Season 3, Episode 1 "New York Strong" Synopsis
Season 3 more or less begins where Season 3 left off with Eph struggling to improve his failing bioweapon while trying to come to terms with the abduction of his son and the death of Nora. Meanwhile, the strigois are evolving. They have become faster and smarter which means it will be harder to kill them.
Elsewhere, Setrakian and Quinlan will try to crack the Lumen’s secrets while Fet works with a Navy SEAL team who are on a mission to search The Master in the underground tunnels of New York. No one knows the tunnels of the Big Apple better than the former rat exterminator.
3. New characters
In the aftermath of Coco and Nora’s death on “The Strain,” Season 3 has added two new characters. The first is NYPD Captain Kate Nelson (America Olivo), who is in charge of a squad of combatants. The second is a Navy SEAL team leader named Kroft who will hunt the blood-suckers.
4. The Government Is Running Out Of Manpower
“The future of New York and the world really hangs in the balance,” the FX show’s executive producer Carlton Cuse told TVGuide. Season 3 will show a full-on war between humans and the strigois to see which species emerges as the dominant one on Earth.
While the government is trying their best to get rid of the disease, it becomes increasingly difficult with the dwindling manpower. The fact that the enemy doubles in size everyday doesn’t help.
5. More Information About Quinlan and Eichhorst’s past
The last season of “The Strain” introduced Quinlan, The Master’s half-human, half-strigoi son. However, not much was known about the powerful being except that he is immortal and has a soft corner for his mother. Season 3 will delve into his and Eichhorst’s past in detail.
6. Kelly’s conflict
Kelly will constantly be wrestling between her desire to feed on Zack and her instinct to protect him as his mother.
“The Strain” Season 3 premieres on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
