A Lazio striker who has better goal record than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is reportedly participating in eSports.
Due to the crisis caused by the coronaries pandemic across the world, Formula 1 races are canceled. With races not taking place, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has found a way to entertain sports fans through the eSports.
The federation has decided to organize virtual races involving real F1 drivers, eSport professionals, and other celebrities.
The virtual race will happen this weekend. And among the biggest names participating is Formula One fan and Lazio goal scorer Ciro Immobile, The Laziali reported.
The Italian striker will take part in the virtual racing event which will take place in the Formula 1 Chinese Virtual Grand Prix Series. Immobile will be racing together with New Zealand racing driver Liam Lawson, he will drive for the Scuderia AlphaTauri. Another soccer star reportedly taking part is Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois. Thibaut will be joined F1 driver Alex Albon for Red Bull Racing.
The said virtual race will be streamed on Sunday, April 19th, 2020 at 19:00 (Central European Summer Time) on the Formula 1 YouTube Channel and the Formula 1 Twitch Channel.
Some fans may not know, but Immobile has a better goal-per-game record than soccer icons Messi and Ronaldo.
The Lazio star has not been able to e consistent in his goal scoring in the last six years. However, Immobile has managed to claim the Serie A’s Golden Boot award twice, scoring more than 20 goals in four separate campaigns in Italy’s top flight.
According to Marca, Immobile’s tally of 30 in 33 games across all competitions tallied an impressive average of 0.9 goals-per-game. The said goal percentage saw him superior to Ronaldo, Messi and other goal scoring machines Sergio Aguero, Karim Benzema, Mo Salah, Harry Kane.
To put this into context, only Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s boy wonder Erling Braut Haaland were able to exceed Immobile’s tally. The 30-year-old striker could also end the season with a place in the history books as his 27 goals in 26 league games closes in on Gonzalo Higuain’s all-time record of 36 goals in a single campaign.
Due to his impressive run this season, Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly desperate for Everton to bring Immobile to the Premier League.
TEAMtalk reported that Ancelotti has made Immobile Everton’s number one summer target. The Toffees are believed to be willing to offer Moise Kean in exchange in an attempt to barter down the Lazio star’s £43 million ($53 million) price tag.
