Stroke Prevention: Eat Fiber, Reduce Eggs To Cut Your Risk Of The Disease
KEY POINTS
- Preventing the onset of a stroke is very important
- Eating the right kind of food and avoiding those that are prohibited can greatly help prevent the onset
- More fiber and less eggs are what experts recommend
Like a heart attack, a stroke happens at the least expected moment. It may not always occur, but the danger that it brings to health is so immense that the results could be life-changing, albeit in a negative way. There are certain foods that could help you in lowering your risk, and there are also those that you must stay away from as they can literally increase your risk.
Food & Stroke
One of the major studies published recently found that fruits and vegetables could cut down your risk of stroke. On the other hand, eating eggs increases your risk of developing the disease.
As per the study, which followed 418,000 people in 9 UK countries for 12 years, it found that certain foods have been linked to different kinds of stroke. One good example is eating fiber every day. This helps in lowering the risk by 23%. On the other hand, if you consume more than a third of an egg daily, you are actually increasing your risk of a stroke by 25%.
Those who eat more fruits and vegetables, milk, cheese, yogurt, lower their risk of an ischemic stroke. This kind of stroke occurs when the blockage to an artery cuts the blood supply to the brain. By eating approximately 7 ounces of vegetables and fruits daily, you will be able to reduce your risk by 13%.
Experts Speak
A senior dietitian at the British Heart Foundation, Victoria Taylor, revealed that the recommended portion of fruits and vegetables intake in the UK is at least 5 every day. However, most Brits aren’t able to meet this.
Based on Dr. Richard Francis, who heads the research at Stroke association, it would still be best to look at one’s eating and drinking habits even though the research suggested eliminating certain foods like eggs from the diet. He elaborated further that removing one kind of food from the diet will not exactly mean that you no longer have any risk of suffering from a stroke.
Generally, you need to have overall lifestyle changes. Having a healthy diet daily and keeping yourself active will contribute to a lowered risk of stroke. In addition, make sure that you also monitor your blood pressure. When you adhere to all these, there is a huge chance that you will be able to lower your risk in no time.
