The past few years haven’t been the smoothest for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale. The former superstar has seen minimal minutes and was most recently limited to playing time in Wales’ UEFA Nations League stint.

In the most recent matchup between Wales and Finland, Ryan Giggs substituted Bale at halftime. It was a well-contested match as Wales was able to escape with a 1-0 victory care of Kieffer Moore netting a goal in the 80th minute.

"It was a gritty performance, not our usual flowing football but Finland made it difficult for us. It's the kind of game we can learn from," Giggs said after the match, by way of Goal.com.

The current UEFA Nations League has Wales on top with three points in their group care of the first win of the season.

"We take the plusses because we dug out a result and with a clean sheet we've always got a chance,” Giggs continued.

The former Tottenham Hotspur player of the year Bale hasn’t seen much action on the pitch with tension with manager Zinedine Zidane The conflict between the two has been going on for over a year and has resulted in Bale riding the bench in most of Real Madrid’s games. Throughout his stint with Real Madrid, he’s suited up for 251 appearances and has scored 105 goals to go along with 68 assists.

"Gareth Bale, it was planned for him to come off at half-time, he's had no football at all. He was always going to get 45 minutes," Giggs added.

News has circulated that Bale wants to return to the Premier League but he shared that it has been difficult to leave due to Real Madrid preventing it.

"I tried to leave last year but they blocked everything at the last second. It was a project I was excited for but it didn't materialize," Bale said.

The right winger’s current market value is now at 28 million Euros and he’s looking forward to moving on from his stint in Los Blancos.

"There have been other instances where we have tried to go but the club won't allow it or they've done something. It's down to the club,” Bale added.

It will be interesting to see how Bale can bounce back from these setbacks and if he can find enough momentum to regain his groove again.
