A video filmed by a school student showing the bloody aftermath of the Houston School shooting last week has sparked heated discussions online about the frequent gun violence in schools and how such instances have become "normal" in the country.

A former student at YES Prep Southwest Secondary school, 25-year-old Dexter Harold Kelsey, opened fire Friday at the school's entrance trying to get access to the school. The school's Principal, Eric Espinoza, was shot in the back and was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery. More than 900 students were at the campus during the incident and no students were injured.

The video shot by a female student at the school was posted on Tiktok captioned: “Well this happened today.” The video went viral receiving more than 7.1 million views in three days, Patch reported.

The harrowing video shows the students getting evacuated after the incident with their hands raised as law enforcement officers in bulletproof vests and guns line the entrance of each classroom. The video then shows students walking by and bloodstains all over the ground. A shattered glass door is seen in the background where the shooting took place.

Many Tiktok viewers shared their concerns about how gun violence has become so common in the country that it is not even covered by the media. "This turned so common, you don't even see it in the news anymore," a viewer commented. "Why is this still happening, man. It is such a common thing that you barely see stuff like this trend anymore," another person wrote.

While some viewers talked about bringing strict gun laws to curb such instances, a few pointed the need to have better mental health programs in schools to support children.

"Kids aren't supposed to worry about [whether] they will be safe in school. My heart goes out to all [affected]," a user wrote.

“It was scary, because two days ago, we practiced a drill like this, like what we would do if something happened like this, and for it to happen now like school is not safe for anybody anymore,” a student was quoted as saying after the shooting by KHOU.
