Study Finds Americans Willing To Do The Extreme To Avoid Creating Bad Impression

A new study may not sit well with everyone; however, it revealed that many Americans don’t like the idea of creating a bad impression, which was why they would do even the extreme! The study revealed that this has something to do with going to interviews.
According to the new study, which involved 2,000 Americans, 23% were willing to brave the cold just to make a good impression. A ratio of 4:10 was willing to for one full day, to stand in line at the DMV. The common factor among them was that they simply didn’t want to make a bad impression.
The study tried to examine the attitude of many Americans towards first impressions. What seems to be the driving factor that motivates the kind of mindset of the 23% was that you only get one chance. They put so much pressure on interviews that the 6 out of 10 would rather stay in a job that they dislike, than venture out for a new one and undergo another interview.
The research also hypothesized that this advertence towards an interview might be brought about by the number of “interviews gone wrong” scenarios. Accordingly, 42% of respondents have experienced yelling at an interviewer, while another four left the interview in tears.
Because of these scenarios, many Americans attest that they feel more pressured in an interview compared to meeting their in-laws. The same comparison can be said if they would be going out on a date.
Around 66% of the respondents stated that they feel intimidated whenever they would be interviewed for a job. Surprisingly, many put much weight on business cards in making them feel more confident in such situations.
As per NYPost’s report, Gina Cothey, MOO’s VP of Global Marketing, said that it is quite clear from the results of the research that Americans will go to great lengths just to be able to make a good first impression.
While she did concede to the fact that first meetings always feel daunting, she emphasized that proper preparation and having the right tools like a business card will have a good effect. She also advised to arm oneself with ice breakers. It can always do wonders in helping you shake off the feelings of being uneasy and intimidated.
