Suarez Working On Italian Passport Requirements To Complete Juventus Transfer
KEY POINTS
- Suarez open to negotiating contract termination with Barca
- Suarez readying requirements for an Italian passport
- Barca eyeing Memphis Depay
Luis Suarez has found a new home but the transfer to Juventus is far from done. Bianconeri still has to settle the fee for the Uruguayan football player who still has a year left in his current deal. Aside from that, Suarez needs to undergo a language exam to secure an Italian passport.
Assuming all these matters are settled, the move of Suarez to Allianz Stadium should be completed soon. Goal reports that Juve and Suarez have agreed to a three-year deal worth roughly $12 million per season.
Suarez was told by Ronal Koeman in a previous post to look for another club since he was not part of the club's plans. Barca could release him outright but need to fork out a staggering $17 million. Given the current situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, shelling out that huge sum is unlikely to happen.
Alternatively, Barca could get a reprieve with Suarez said to be ready to sit down and negotiate a release. Figures could be lowered with the Uruguayan seemingly just interested in cutting tied with the club and smoothing out his move to Allianz Stadium.
With Suarez out, Barcelona is trying to make a final pitch for Lautaro Martinez. Although Inter Milan already mentioned that the 23-year-old striker is untransferrable, the Catalan giants hope that their planned pitch can convince Nerazzurri to agree to a move.
For Koeman, the good news is that Lionel Messi has chosen to stay at Camp Nou. Before that decision, the Argentine said that he wanted to move out of Barca. Messi was pretty unhappy at the management of the team, particularly at how club president Josep Maria Bartomeu was handling things.
Aside from Martinez, Barca is believed to be mapping out plans to land Lyon and Netherlands star Memphis Depay. The 26-year-old revealed that he would be open to leaving the French side this transfer window. Lyon coach Rudi Garcia said he would not prevent Depay from leaving if Barca would make an offer, Goal reported.
On the part of Juve, Andre Pirlo is on the prowl for a new forward. Gonzalo Higuain opted to terminate his contract a year before it expires.
"I talked to Higuain. He is a person I admire very much. He had an important cycle here, he was a great player but in speaking with him we decided our roads must separate," said Pirlo via another report from Goal.
