The cast of “Suicide Squad” and director James Gunn has been confirmed for the DC FanDome event. DC FanDome will be a virtual, 24-hour convention. It was announced earlier today and the event will inform fans about the upcoming projects included within DC’s own extended universe.

According to Screen Rant, the event followed the example of the San Diego Comic-Con, which went online in adherence to social distancing rules currently in place. The FanDome convention will include information about the “Justice League (Snyder Cut),” “The Batman,” and “Suicide Squad 2,” a film fans are excited for since Gunn – who directed Marvel movies previously – has taken directorial duties.

The upcoming movie isn’t a “Suicide Squad 2” in the sense of the word. According to reports, this movie will be a fresh new take on the property. Included in its cast are old members Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis. There are some newcomers in Idris Elba, Taika Waititi, Pete Davidson, and Nathan Fillion.

As for Gunn, there are reports that had linked him previously to other DC films. Gunn was apparently approached to direct a “Superman” movie in 2019, when he was in hiatus following his departure from directorial duties for the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, Comic Book reported.

Gunn confirmed that he was indeed offered such a project.

The filmmaker said it was supposed to have been another movie based on the superhero but not necessarily “Man of Steel 2.” Gunn also went on Instagram to clarify some details behind the supposed offer. The director wrote, "No one offered me a specific film, but various characters were brought up. DC said I could do what I wanted with any of the characters."

The director did post that there were some “cool stuff” that they’re planning for the “Suicide Squad.” He didn’t shed light on any details about the film, preferring to leave it shrouded in mystery. It is also revealed that “The Suicide Squad” will follow after “Wonder Woman 1984,” which will now be premiering this October.
