‘Suits’ Season 7: ‘Better Off Ted’s’ Jay Harrington Cast As Donna’s Ex
“Better Off Ted” star Jay Harrington has booked a multi-episode role in Season 7 of “Suits.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harrington will play the role of Donna’s (Sarah Rafferty) ex-boyfriend, Mark Meadows, in two episodes of the current season of the USA Network series.
“Suits” creator Aaron Korsh revealed in an interview with THR that they had actually considered casting Harrington for other roles in the past. But because he’s usually working on other projects, those roles ultimately went to other actors.
“We have discussed Jay for many roles over the years because our casting director, Bonnie Zane, knows I’m a huge fan of his from ‘Better Off Ted’ and other things,” Korsh said.
“Often he was unavailable. A few months ago he was pitched for the role of Tommy Bratton, but we ended up going with Al Sapienza. A few weeks later we were writing the role of Mark Meadows and that was perfect. It requires someone in that age range who can be charming, can be handsome, and someone who can be a challenge sexually with Harvey (Gabriel Macht) for Donna. So I was glad we didn’t go with him for Tommy Bratton. Sometimes you end up landing in the role that you should.”

Harrington, whose previous acting credits include CBS’ “Code Black,” USA Network’s “Benched” and TV Land’s “Hot in Cleveland,” is the latest addition to Season 7 of “Suits,” which has already welcomed newcomers Dulé Hill and Ray Proscia. Hill plays Pearson Specter Litt’s newest senior partner Alex Williams, while Proscia portrays the role of Louis’ (Rick Hoffman) therapist, Dr. Lipschitz.
As reported by Deadline last month, Usman Ally is also set to recur as Deputy Attorney General Andrew Malik this season.
In addition to his two-episode stint on “Suits,” Harrington will also be seen in the upcoming CBS series “S.W.A.T.” On the crime drama, Harrington will play the role of David “Deacon” Kay — the character portrayed by LL Cool J in the 2003 movie of the same title, directed by Clark Johnson.
“Suits” airs every Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT on USA Network, while “S.W.A.T.” is set to premiere on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.
