Suni Lee Reveals Rejecting Hailey Bieber's Offer To Meet Justin Bieber At Met Gala

Gymnastics superstar Sunisa “Suni” Lee has revealed why she rejected Hailey Bieber’s offer to meet Justin Bieber. Lee grew up obsessed with the “Cold Water” singer and even danced to his music when she joined “Dancing with the Stars” Season 30.

On Thursday, Lee appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and told DeGeneres that one of the perks of being an Olympic gold medalist was the chance to attend the 2021 Met Gala earlier this month. The athlete revealed being so thrilled to have rubbed elbows with celebrities during the event, including Rihanna and Hailey Bieber.

“I met Rihanna, I met Hailey Bieber—oh my gosh, I love her,” she said. Lee recalled how happy she was to have had the opportunity to talk to Hailey that night, saying it got her literally shaking. “I talked to her, and I was shaking, and I was like, ‘Hi, I’m Suni.’”

“And then I was just telling her how I was dancing to Justin Bieber’s ‘Stay’ for my first ‘Dancing with the Stars’ dance. And she’s like, ‘You should tell him.’ And I was like, ‘OK,’” she continued. She revealed she nodded her head at Hailey’s offer, but deep inside she wanted to say no.

Lee explained that while she’s long been a huge fan of Justin, she could not muster up the courage to approach her idol and talk to him. “Then when I got the chance to see him, I got too scared. I was like, ‘I’m not doing it,’” she said.

Surprised by her story, DeGeneres asked to clarify, “You didn’t walk over to him and say hi?”

“No, I was so scared,” Lee responded.

DeGeneres told Lee that Justin is a “sweetheart” and that she shouldn’t feel scared meeting him in person. Lee then assured the host that being introduced to the singer someday was still on her bucket list. “I hope so, too, because me and my sister, when we were younger, we had posters of him and blankets of him, and the posters have kissy marks on it [sic] with red lipstick,” the female athlete confessed.

“So Justin, if you’re watching, just forget that I said that. Yeah, I really wanted to meet him,” she added.
