Super Bowl 2017 Tickets: Are Prices Dropping With The Dallas Cowboys Out? How To Attend Football's Biggest Game
Fans still holding out hope to attend Super Bowl LI received some good news over the weekend. Ticket prices for the NFL's championship game at Houston's NRG Stadium on Feb. 5 took a sharp drop after the Dallas Cowboys’ loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
The cheapest Super Bowl tickets started off at $4,195 on Stubhub but prices dropped nearly 20 percent to $3,349 after the Cowboys lost, according to Darren Rovell of ESPN. Many ticket brokers were expecting to cash in on high-priced ticket purchases by Cowboy fans who were hoping to make the short trip to Houston.
"The threat of the Cowboys playing in a Super Bowl within a four-hour drive of their home stadium was propping up get-in ticket prices to unprecedented levels," Patrick Ryan, co-founder of Eventellect, a Houston-based ticket distribution company, told ESPN. "Cowboys fans were willing to take the risk of buying tickets and their team not making it because of the uncertainty of what would happen if they did make it."
Big spenders looking to attend the Super Bowl can still make last minute ticket purchases on Stubhub, as well as tailgating tickets that start at $699.
Fans traveling in groups of four or more can also purchase ticket packages that feature premium seats, Super Bowl LI gifts and trinkets, on-field access and VIP pre-game party entry on Ticketmaster. Packages from the ticket distributors start at $5,799. Individual tickets for the game on Ticketmaster start at $3,451 with guaranteed delivery before game day.
However, those hoping to score even cheaper tickets may take a gamble and wait for potential price drops about two weeks before the Super Bowl. In the days leading up to the game, ticket resales have been known to drastically reduce prices as sellers' fears of being stuck with unsold tickets typically tend to increase closer towards game day, according to a New York Times report.
