Super Bowl 2021: What Is The Point Spread For Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
With Super Bowl 2021 nearly 48 hours away, there appears to be a consensus point spread at sportsbooks across the country. While the Kansas City Chiefs had been favored by 3.5 points over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the betting line is down to a field goal as kickoff gets closer.
Kansas City is laying three points at the top sportsbooks, including FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM. The line is down to three points at offshore and Las Vegas sportsbooks, as well, according to OddsShark.
You’ll have to pay a little extra to bet on Kansas City. The odds are Chiefs-3 at -120 at FanDuel, meaning a Kansas City bettor must risk $120 in order to win $100. It’s -113 at DraftKings, where a $113 bet on Chiefs-3 would profit $100 if the wager hits.
The Chiefs have won both of their playoff games by more than a field goal. Kansas City is 7-10-1 against the spread.
The Bucs are 11-8 against the spread.
With a 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in last year’s Super Bowl, the Chiefs covered the 1.5-point spread. Favorites are 3-1 straight up and against the spread in three of the last four Super Bowls.
The only favorite to lose during that span was Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, who lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018 as 4.5-point favorites. Brady’s Patriots covered as short favorites in the 2017 and 2019 Super Bowls.
Sunday marks just the third time in his career that Brady is a Super Bowl underdog. The legendary quarterback is 6-3 straight up and 4-5 against the spread in Super Bowls, according to OddsShark.
Patrick Mahomes is the reigning Super Bowl MVP. He’s widely considered to have replaced Brady as the best player in the NFL.
Three Super Bowl teams have been favored by exactly three points in the last two decades. Each of those favorites won and covered the spread.
The Chiefs were favored by 3.5 points over the Bucs on Nov. 29. Kansas City led 17-0 after the first quarter, but Tampa Bay covered the spread in a 27-24 loss.
Mahomes and Brady combined to throw for 807 yards and six touchdowns. The game was played in Tampa Bay.
On Sunday, the Bucs will become the first team in NFL history to play the Super Bowl in its home stadium. About one-third of the seats at Raymond James Stadium are expected to be filled.
