Super Bowl 2023 Odds: Point Spread Changes Since Chiefs vs. Eagles Game Was Set
The Super Bowl 2023 odds might finally be settling at one number. The point spread between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles is the same at the top sportsbooks with 10 days until the NFL's championship game kicks off.
The Super Bowl odds favor the Eagles by 1.5 points over the Chiefs at DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and Caesars sportsbooks. Each sportsbook had different point spreads at different times within 24 hours of the Super Bowl matchup being made official.
The Chiefs actually opened as short betting favorites at FanDuel when they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game. Caesar initially listed the Super Bowl as a pick'em. The Eagles were favored by 1.5 points right away at DraftKings, and the spread reached two points Monday morning. One day after the Super Bowl matchup was set, the odds favored Philadelphia by 2.5 points at BetMGM.
Just as bettors immediately jumped on the Eagles when they weren't favored, more bets were placed on the Chiefs when Kansas City approached becoming a field goal underdog.
Barring some unexpected injury news, the Chiefs likely won't be favored over the Eagles before the game starts. Kansas City had gone 15 straight playoff games without being an underdog.
Patrick Mahomes has never been an underdog in a playoff game, though he came close to ending his streak against the Bengals. Cincinnati was a short favorite in the days leading up to the AFC Championship Game. The odds swung back toward the Chiefs when Mahomes participated fully in practice and seemed ready to play though his high ankle sprain.
Kansas City closed as a 9.5-point favorite over the Jacksonville Jaguars before winning 27-20 in the divisional playoff.
Philadelphia easily covered the spread as favorites in both of its playoff games. The Eagles ended the San Francisco 49ers' 12-game winning streak with a 31-7 victory in the 2023 NFC Championship Game. Prior to being 2.5-point favorites over the 49ers, the Eagles were favored by eight points over the New York Giants in the divisional playoffs. Philadelphia beat New York 38-7.
Jalen Hurts has been favored in every start this season as the Eagles starting quarterback. Hurts has a 16-1 record straight up and a 10-7 record against the spread.
The Super Bowl 2021 odds favored the Chiefs by a field goal before they were routed by Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-9. The previous year, Kansas City ended its 50-year championship drought by beating San Francisco as one-point Super Bowl favorites.
Nick Foles and the Eagles upset Brady and the New England Patriots as four-point underdogs in Super Bowl 2018.
