KEY POINTS

  • The Chargers try to keep their heads afloat with several key players going down due to injuries
  • J.C. Jackson returning this season remains uncertain after dislocating his right knee
  • The Chargers could have Joey Bosa back soon after being held out of action due to a groin injury

The 2022-23 NFL season was supposed to be a special one for the Los Angeles Chargers, considered one of the teams that could make a deep playoff run.

Given that they boast of a roster made up of league-high eight players who appeared on ESPN's 2022 ranking of the NFL's top 100, this was hardly surprising.

But that was before the injury bug started to prey on the key players on the Chargers' side.

They have dropped two lopsided losses–including a 20-point loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3.

The woes continued on Sunday, October 23 after the Chargers lost anew to Seattle Seahawks, 23-37.

But even more concerning is the fact that they saw several key players go down with distressing injuries.

On one end is cornerback J.C. Jackson as the 26-year-old was carted off the field after reportedly dislocating his right knee,

"It was sad because I was right beside it," safety Derwin James said of Jackson's injury. "I saw it. I was the closest person to it."

But Jackson was not the only player who suffered an injury in that game.

Wide receiver Mike Williams was assisted off the field due to a right ankle injury.

Like Jackson, he also needed to be carted out of the field.

"I've been there before, I've taken that fall where a guy is underneath you and you kind of bend everything back and you get that high ankle sprain. We'll see what comes back on the X-rays and I hope he's good," wide receiver Keenan Allen said about the injury of Williams.

That loss snapped the three-game winning streak of the Chargers, something that dropped them to 4-3 and into second place in the AFC West.

Moreover, they drew a bye for Week 8.

"The reality is that through seven games, we've had to fight really hard to be 4-3," Charhers coach Brandon Staley said in a report by ESPN. "We've endured a lot. Our season is in front of us, which is the truth."

Some good news for the Chargers is that Joey Bosa is believed to be returning soon.

The four-time Pro Bowl selection is coming off a groin injury, something he sustained in Week 3.
