The Super Bowl odds at the start of the 2022 NFL season suggest that a large portion of the league has a legitimate chance to win the championship. If recent history is any indication, at least one long shot will make a push to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Thirteen teams have +2200 Super Bowl odds or better. Compare that to last season when only 10 teams had better than +3000 Super Bowl odds in Week 1.

The Cincinnati Bengals had worse Super Bowl odds than all but two teams at the start of the 2021 season, which concluded with Joe Burrow and Co. in the Super Bowl. The 2017 Philadelphia Eagles were the last true preseason long shot to win the Super Bowl, doing so with +5000 odds.

There hasn't been a repeat Super Bowl champion since the New England Patriots won it all in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Neither of this year's betting favorites even reached the conference title game a season ago.

Here's a breakdown of the Super Bowl LVII odds, via FanDuel Sportsbook, as well as a Super Bowl prediction, before Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.

The Favorites: Buffalo Bills +600, Tampa Bay Buccaneers +750

It's Super Bowl or bust for Buffalo in the 2022 season. Josh Allen is the NFL MVP favorite, and most experts are picking the Bills to win their first-ever championship. The Bills scored 83 points in their two playoff games last season and were 13 seconds away from reaching a second straight AFC Championship Game.

The Buccaneers also fell just shy of reaching the conference title game, losing to the eventual Super Bowl champs on a last-second field goal. Tom Brady is coming off one of his best seasons ever and is only 19 months removed from winning his fifth Super Bowl MVP award. Tampa Bay is expected to run away with the NFC South title.

Top Contenders: Kansas City Chiefs +1000, Los Angeles Rams +1100, Green Bay Packers +1200, Los Angeles Chargers +1400, San Francisco 49ers +1600, Denver Broncos +1700

Patrick Mahomes makes the Chiefs perennial contenders, leading Kansas City to the AFC Championship Game in all four of his seasons as a starter. The Rams have brought back most of their top players from last season's Super Bowl run. Aaron Rodgers has won back-to-back MVP awards, and Green Bay has won 13 games in three straight years.

Because of Justin Herbert's ascension, the Chargers have the highest expectations of any team that missed the playoffs. The 49ers have played in two of the last three NFC Championship Games, and they are hoping that quarterback Trey Lance is an upgrade over Jimmy Garoppolo. Denver is favored to make its first playoff appearance in seven years now that Russell Wilson is under center.

In The Mix: Philadelphia Eagles +2000, Baltimore Ravens +2000, Dallas Cowboys +2000, Cincinnati Bengals +2200, Indianapolis Colts +2200

Philadelphia's odds have soared throughout the offseason with additions like A.J. Brown and Haason Reddick. Before being decimated by injuries in 2021, the Ravens averaged 12 wins over a three-year span. The Cowboys won the 2021 NFC East title with the league's top-ranked offense before losing at home in their first playoff game.

The odds indicate that the Bengals won't have a repeat of last season. Following their run to the Super Bowl, Cincinnati has worse championship odds than one-third of NFL teams. Matt Ryan has turned the Colts into odds-on AFC South favorites.

If Everything Breaks Right: Arizona Cardinals +3000, Cleveland Browns +3000, Tennessee Titans +3500, Minnesota Vikings +4000, Miami Dolphins +4000, Las Vegas Raiders +4000, New England Patriots +4000, New Orleans Saints +4000

Seemingly nothing has gone right for the Cardinals since they started the 2021 season 7-0, though Kyler Murray has gotten better every year and made consecutive Pro Bowls. The Browns' Super Bowl hopes could be dashed before Deshaun Watson returns from his 11-game suspension. The Tennessee Titans have the worst Super Bowl odds of any reigning division winner.

The Vikings and Dolphins have become popular picks to make the playoffs because of their offensive talent. The Raiders are viewed as the worst team in the NFL's best division. There are a lot of questions about the Patriots' offense after their wild-card round flame-out. The Saints are on a streak of five straight winning seasons, but they have lost their future Hall of Fame head coach.

Long Shots: Pittsburgh Steelers +7000, Washington Commanders +8500, New York Giants +8500, Carolina Panthers +10000, Detroit Lions +10000

The Steelers have the worst odds of any team that made last year's playoffs. Washington and New York are expected to battle for last place in the NFC East. Carolina and Detroit are coming off last-place finishes.

Virtually No Chance: Chicago Bears +12000, Jacksonville Jaguars +12000, New York Jets +15000, Seattle Seahawks +15000, Atlanta Falcons +25000, Houston Texans +30000

The Bears, Jaguars and Jets are led by second-year quarterbacks who don't have a ton of help around them. Seattle and Atlanta are expected to finish at the bottom of the standings after trading their long-time franchise quarterbacks. Houston could have a third straight four-win season
