Super Bowl Update: Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady Comparisons Slammed By Chiefs QB's Fiancée
KEY POINTS
- Super Bowl LV has become mostly about Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes
- Mahomes' fiancée revealed her thoughts on the subject on social media
- The Chiefs quarterback made a huge Brady admission ahead of the match
Patrick Mahomes’ fiancée has grown tired of hearing comparisons of Tom Brady and other quarterbacks.
The narrative of Super Bowl LV has evidently become Brady vs. Mahomes. Many in the sport have been pitting the two perennial quarterbacks against each other on various aspects, but ahead of the pair’s much-awaited clash, Mahomes’ fiancée, Brittany Matthews, expressed her disappointment over the said comparisons.
On her Twitter account, Matthews wrote, “why do we constantly have to compare players, I don’t understand it. Just let them be who they are.”
Hours later, the 25-year-old tweeted another message and put the people continuously comparing her future husband to other NFL stars on check.
“One day, y’all will learn, to stop comparing people,” she added.
Brady and Mahomes will face each other for the fifth time on Sunday at Super Bowl LV as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers go head-to-head with last year’s winner Kansas City Chiefs. The younger Mahomes is looking to cop his second consecutive title, while the veteran Brady would fancy adding another glitter to his stellar NFL career with a seventh ring.
Some see the Super Bowl LV match between the pair as the passing of the torch, with Mahomes touted as the lone NFL quarterback who can succeed Brady in the present era.
Revealing his thoughts on the subject, Mahomes admitted that he really is still trying to learn from the six-time champion, who is three Super Bowl MVP awards ahead of him.
“As I continue in my career, I’ll still try to do whatever I can to watch the tape on him, because he’s doing it the right way,” Mahomes told reporters of Brady on Monday. “You can tell by how many Super Bowl championships he has — by the rings on his fingers.”
For the Chiefs star, it is also a no-brainer for a modern-day athlete to “look up” to Brady, who has kept improving even to this day.
“If you’re a young athlete — and you play any sport — and you don’t look up to guys like Tom Brady, then you’re crazy,” the Texas native explained.
“I mean, he’s a guy who’s had success, [yet] year-in and year-out continues to make himself better — to not be satisfied with where he’s at,” he continued. “He’s the type of greatness that you strive to be like and [grow] toward as you grow up. For me, I grew up watching him play. He’s still here playing, and he’s still at the top of the game.”
