Super Mario 3DS Playable At E3, To Arrive This Year
Nintendo star developer Shigeru Miyamoto has teased a few more details on Super Mario 3DS, the latest game in the Super Mario series.
Speaking to Edge, Miyamoto said that the next Mario game would not only be playable at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, but also available for purchase later this year.
Revealed at this year's Game Developer's Conference, Super Mario 3DS will take advantage of the 3DS's 3D capabilities. In particular, Nintendo aims for the title's 3D visuals to solve one of the central problems facing games like Mario in which a character has to jump on verious platforms -- judging distance in a three-dimensional environment.
Miyamoto also partially confirmed that the tail-like object in the game's logo was indeed a tail. The tail you mentioned on the logo -- it's what you think it is, he said, referring to either the raccoon tail or Tanooki suit, both of which first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3. You probably know what's going to happen using that character, he said.
According to Miyamoto, Super Mario 3DS will be a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64, the first Mario platformer to appear in three dimensions. This means that the game will not be the vein of previous portable Super Mario titles, such as New Super Mario Bros., which featured side-scrolling gameplay.
E3 will take place from June 7-9 in Los Angeles.
