'Super Mario Galaxy' Rated For Wii U, Possibly Getting Digital Release
It looks like one of the best games on the Wii is coming to the Wii U, as “Super Mario Galaxy” has been rated by the ESRB for a Wii U release. The timing is a bit odd since the game’s sequel “Super Mario Galaxy 2” was released earlier this year, but it does allow new players to try out the acclaimed first game.
Some fans hoping that this would be an HD re-release, similar to “The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD,” shouldn’t get their hopes up. Destructoid stated that if this were the case the game would be given its own rating through the ESRB.
That’s not the case with “Super Mario Galaxy,” as the game has been rated for the Wii and The Wii U. The likely case for this is that it will be digitally released through the Nintendo eShop.
Considering how the Wii U is already backwards compatible with Wii games, it is a bit odd seeing the game get a digital release. Perhaps this is for those that want to play the game without having to switch to the regular Wii menu, but it seems like those that still have a copy of the original version should probably keep them.
An article from Game Informer stated that Nintendo might be planning something for the New Year and it’s possible that the digital release of “Super Mario Galaxy” is part of that. The company might be planning to re-release a number of games from the Wii to the Wii U, though fans will have to wait and see for an official announcement.
“Super Mario Galaxy” has been hailed as one of the best Wii games, thanks to the game’s stunning graphics and fun gameplay. Bringing the series to space also made the series feel fresh again, as some fans felt that the Mario games have been getting a bit stale lately.
The sequel added Yoshi to the game and added even more levels to play through, making it a worthy game to play through as well. With the first game now coming to the Wii U it looks like fans will be able to play two acclaimed “Mario” games.
