Super Mario LEGO Sets: Prices, Nintendo Characters Included In New Expansion Packs
On Tuesday, Nintendo fans were greeted with more information about the new LEGO Super Mario experience. The collection not only features Mario himself, but other familiar characters, such as Bowser, Yoshi, Toad, and others. How much do the sets cost and when can you buy them?
For those who are looking for a simple introduction to the new LEGO collection, the Adventures with Mario Starter Course includes everything you need to begin building your own version of the popular Nintendo games. While the set does exhibit the classic stacking functionality that you expect from Lego products, new features have also been incorporated in order to make the experience more high tech.
As seen on the LEGO website, the Mario Starter Course includes a figurine that "gives instant expressive responses via the LCD screens and speaker." Those who purchase the Lego Mario kit can also earn virtual coins and pair it with the free LEGO Super Mario app to find new ways to build creative things. The 231-piece set retails for $59.99 and is now available for pre-order. At this time, it has a scheduled shipping date of August 1.

Aside from the Starter Course, a series of expansion packs will also be available for those who are looking to branch out from the basic set. In April, the Piranha Plant Power Slide Expansion Set and Bowser’s Castle Boss Battle Expansion Set were announced, but on Tuesday, fans were also introduced to other options.
The Guarded Fortress Expansion Set, the Mario’s House & Yoshi Expansion Set, the Toad’s Treasure Hunt Expansion Set, the Desert Pokey Expansion Set, the Whomp’s Lava Trouble Expansion Set and the Boomer Bill Barrage Expansion Set are all slated to make their debut later this year. Additionally, 10 collectible enemy characters can also be purchased, including Bob-omb, Paragoomba, Fuzzy, and more.
As for the prices of the aforementioned expansions, they will retail between $19.99 and $69.99, depending on the one that you're interested in. Power-up Packs, including the LEGO Super Mario Fire Mario Power-Up Pack and LEGO Super Mario Cat Mario Power-Up Pack can also be purchased for $9.99 each. The full list of prices can be viewed here.
"With today’s announcement, 16 LEGO Super Mario sets have been introduced and I am really looking forward to seeing how people’s play expands with these and the unique Power-Up Packs," Takashi Tezuka, Executive Officer and Game Producer of Nintendo Co., Ltd. said when speaking about the new products in a press release.
Continuing, he added, "Each player’s preferences and imagination are different. By adding already owned LEGO bricks onto the Starter Course, and different LEGO Super Mario expansion sets, we hope that people can create various different Mario worlds and continue enjoying them indefinitely."
The Super Mario LEGO kits are currently available for pre-order on Lego.com.
