“Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” Director Masahiro Sakurai has introduced the game’s newest DLC character from his own home.
In the video recorded in early May, Sakurai talked about how the team at “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” has had to work from home since the coronavirus hit and how the state of emergency in Japan has made them adjust to the situation, GameSpot notes.
While mentioning that previous presentations were done differently, Sakurai said that Nintendo sent over recording equipment so that he could still show this new character from the 2017 3D fighting sports game “Arms.”
Jumping over from “Arms” to “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” on June 29 is Min Min, one of the characters who specialize in long-range attacks and Sakurai mentions is particularly good against heavier characters. Min Min can also throw her ring weapon while a slower Megawatt punch can KO opponents instantly if it's fully charged. Her kick can deflect projectiles, and she can use her arms to boost for a high-jump. Finally, her Final Smash unleashes a barrage of punches ending with her Dragon arm.
When Min Min arrives, she’ll bring with her a new Arms-themed stage, the Spring Stadium. It's based on the arena format from “Arms,” and includes springboards for higher jumps. Arms drones will also fly around the battlefield delivering items. The update will also add 18 new music tracks, which Sakurai says represents almost the entire “Arms” stage soundtrack.
Aside from Min Min’s debut on “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate,” GameSpot reports that a new set of Mii Fighter costumes will also drop on June 29. Those include Heihachi (Brawler) from “Tekken,” Ninjara (Brawler) from “Arms,” Marie (Gunner) and Callie (Brawler) from “Splatoon,” and Vault Boy (Gunner) from “Fallout .” Each will be available for 75 cents.
A new Spirits feature in “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” will let you replay past matches for a high score while keeping a cumulative total of all your high scores. Going into one of these with lower equipment will give you a better score. Generally with Spirits fights, buying additional Mii Fighter costumes can impact who you square off against.
Min Min can be added to “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” for $5.99 or as part of the second Fighters Pass. Sakurai ended the presentation by promising that despite the challenges of the quarantine, the “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” team still plans to release five more fighters after Min Min.
